Sashiko Quilting - Japanese Tea Mat

Hand stitching is not usually my forte - but I really enjoyed stitching this tea mat whilst acting like a mouse and on call during my daughter's final master's projects. She got through and so did I.

My Quilting journey has recently begun with my style leading to works, which have some symbolic memory or emotional reference.

I enjoy both practicing my art and teaching. In November 2010 I taught on the topic of ‘Colour’ at Norfold Island’s Quilters Getaway.

Over time I have learned that design is a personal thing. What one person finds imbalanced with colours screaming at each other, another may find excitingly quirky. What I find serene and restful you may find mind numbingly boring. Design and working with fabric is, for me, a cathartic form of expression and a lot of fun!

I was trained in design at the Queensland College of Art and later at Moreton College of TAFE and Brisbane College of Advanced Education. I gained my Bachelor of Education from the University of South Australia while teaching Fashion for Queensland TAFE.
